What menu does Canva document?

How do I crop the picture before Canva masks it?

Canva designs also squash images when a frame is resized from the side. After you have a circle, scale it from a corner.

2. Crop it to a square before you look for a circle. A wide frame is what turns the mask into an oval.
3. Select the image and open the crop or frame control the editor shows today.

Why does the circle turn into an oval?

A circle mask stretched over a wide photo follows the photo’s rectangle, so the result is an oval. Canva is one of the places that happens. Export a square first, and only then apply the round mask. The mask cannot invent a square if the image is still 16:9.

You can see the same failure with a piece of paper. Draw a circle on a long rectangle and the circle is tall. Draw it on a square and it stays round. The software is doing the obvious thing. The fix is the square, not another slider with a hopeful name.

What file should I bring back?

Download PNG when the circle should float on a colored Canva page. Download a square if you would rather let Canva mask it and you have confirmed the control exists in your account. Keep the file under control by exporting the size you need, not a giant original.

How do I keep a Canva frame from guessing the menu?

Canva’s editor moves controls between versions, so this guide never says “click the hexagon icon” or a similar label we did not read on an official help page. Download from Canva as PNG if the design’s background should show around the circle. JPG will bake in a color. Check the export size against the platform chart if the Canva file is destined for an avatar, and do not treat Canva’s default page size as that platform’s rule. A page sized for a story is not an avatar spec.
